What is the Purpose of the Power?
Last month we focused on the power of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised us in Acts chapter 1, but why does He want to give us this power? What does He want us to do with this power?
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
In 2013 some of the ladies who minister to the homeless at Cathedral of Faith church told me a story of a young man named Juan in Lima, Peru. As a result of this outreach, Juan turned away from a life of drugs and desperation and came to know Jesus as his Savior. Juan’s health had suffered greatly, and years of drug use and living on the street had taken their toll. This team working with the homeless arranged medical care and support for Juan, and this long neglected young man went through a leg amputation. The team located temporary housing for him along with a wheelchair and food and clothing. Juan was baptized and was a changed person! He began to study God’s word and longed to know more about Jesus.
Not long after being baptized, Juan went home to be with the Lord. He was ready to meet his Savior and there was no real sadness upon his death. In fact, a miracle had taken place: a soul was resting in the arms of Jesus, having left behind a life that was changed by the power of the Holy Spirit.
This is one example of the Purpose of the Power. This team of lay workers were willing to step out in faith with no resources of their own and do something for another human being. His purposes are to reach out and demonstrate His love and mercy toward lost humanity.
What about you? What is the purpose of His power in your life? What is He asking you to do in faith believing? Ask Him today with a willing heart! You will be doing great things for Him by the power of the Holy Spirit.
