OUR STORY
Latin Equip was founded by Steve and Shelly Hopkins.
Steve and Shelly began their life of missions work as a family in June of 1983 when they moved to Mexico City with two small sons. Soon thereafter, ministry opportunities began to open all over the Spanish-speaking world.
In 1987, Steve and Shelly founded Latin Equip with the heart to impart teaching and encouragement and equip Spanish-speaking pastors for healthy ministry.
Forty years later, Latin Equip has trained 21,000 leaders and brought 35,000 Latin Americans to Christ
MEET OUR FOUNDERS
STEVE HOPKINS
Steve Hopkins was called by God as a 14-year-old to work as a missionary.
God had already made it clear to Steve as a teenager that his life’s calling was to minister in Latin America. At age 16, his family took a short-term mission trip to Ecuador. At the end of their 90-day stay, Steve’s father said, “It’s time to go back to the States.”
Steve replied, “You can go back. I’m staying.”
SHELLY HOPKINS
Shelly came to know the Lord as a teenager during the Jesus Movement. She went to Bible college, and during her time of study went to do a summer study program in Roma, Texas, on the Mexican border. As the bus pulled into Roma, a crowd of Hispanic children ran alongside the bus, and the Lord told her, “Learn Spanish; this is who you will be ministering to for the rest of your life.”
